About Us - Liquid & Maine Street, Halifax

About us

Before Liquid and Maine Street the building was a cinema called The Gaumont. It lied unused and unloved for seven years.

Then in 1998 it was bought by ECL Ltd and converted into the Coliseum which at the time was a state of the art 1000 capacity national award winning nightclub. One year later the two upstairs cinemas were converted into Maine Street, this was based on a New Orleans street scene complete with a real tarmac road and sidewalks, it was designed and built by set designers from the world famous Pinewood Film Studios.

Coliseum & Maine Street both traded very successfully until November 2007 when the Coliseum was given a 21st century refurbishment at a cost of £1.75 Million which transformed the venue into what is now Liquid.

Since then both Liquid & Maine Street have continued to win accolades and remain hugely
popular with the people of Calderdale and beyond...
